Balsam Fir

Abies balsamea – native, evergreen, flat/green needles, produces cones after 20-30 years, slow growth rate up to 25 m tall, interesting smooth bark prior to maturity. Recognized as a tree of northern forests with its slender, tapered top. Thrives in a variety of soils but does not like to dry out due to a shallow root system. A traditional favourite of Christmas tree farms due to their wonderful scent.
